CASABLANCA "Interview answers by Anders"

Interview with Anders from Casablanca

Interview by Margherita (MEG)
"Miskatonic Graffiti" review

LFdM: Hi guys and welcome on board! We are very pleased to have you here on Les Fleurs Du Mal Webzine and I bet our readers can't wait to know something more about you and your upcoming album.
Casablanca is a band formed some years ago with members coming from other famous groups. Whose idea was to gather altogether and form this combo?
A: I guess we have to blame it on the red wine!
Thousands of vinyl records and red wine til sunrise started this band!

LFdM: Why did you chose this monicker? Casablanca makes me think rather to the largest city in Morocco or to the famous black and white movie featuring Humphrey Bogart, then to an epic metal band from Sweden...
A: Good question! Besides the fact that Ingrid Bergman was a Swede we just took it as an homage to a cool record company, if theres ever was one.
They had Kiss and some other cool bands, they inveted disco and we love Rock-Disco!
The name was perfect for what we were at round our first record and maybe we would have called ourselves the black swan on the follow up?
I hope people will just start calling us The Miskatonic Graffiti Orchestra from now on, not that Casablanca is a cheesy name( if we would have satan, lucifer or some other christian dudes name in ours, THAT would be cheesy) but it just fits better for what we are and hopefully becoming.

LFdM: After Apocalyptic Youth and Riding A Black Swan, what does this upcoming album, Miskatonic Graffiti, mean to you, as a band?
A: It more or less save the band.
To work for 5-6 months and feel creativity flow 24/7 was like being high and answered the question why were doin music.

LFdM: Why did you chose to pay tribute to Lovecraft? I suppose his works are a basic source of inspiration for you
A: Yeah, its in the HPL universe for sure.
I had the idea in the late 80s and when we had a lot of songs that sounded differently and had time to do it we pulled it out.

LFdM: I had the chance to give a prelistening to this album to be released in September and I think it is a really good one. I love every track, especially This Is Tomorrow and the album title track. Why did you chose this title?
A: Great info!
It came about playing with words. To express what we like and whats the story is about.
Miskatonic is the area where most of HPL stuff is based and Graffiti came from the movie American Graffiti who also reminds of the everyday life of the characters in our story.

How would you describe your music genres to the ones who never heard what you can do?
A: Were a pop band trying to play metal and always ends up in classic rock land up until now.
Lets start start a new genre then: EBHR- Epic Big Heavy Rock!
Thats it!

LFdM: How would you describe your album? It is a concept one made up of 3 sections. Would you like?
A: Well Miskatonic Graffiti is really the first leg out of three so if u want it and we find time well do part 2 and 3 over the coming years.
We needed some kinda genesis/introduction to the story and had a lot of stuff that would work as acts so we created the enter the mountains and exit the mountains to have a start and a conclusion for part one.
The eight songs in the middle is more or less a classic Casa rocker with some pretention.

LFdM: How does the songwriting process work in this very special band?
A: Writing and recording is the easy part, has always been.
Arrangeing on the other hand takes a lot of time, we could probably release 3-4 non brainer rock albums a year if it wasnt for our ambition to be pretensious:-)

LFdM: Chose 3 adjective to describe your live act:
A: Have a good time all the time and party like its 1789!
If u seek for perfection? Seek somewhere else!
Load up on red wine before attending the show to get in the right Casa mode.

LFdM: Do you plan to play in Italy too? We' d love to see you performing on stage!
Thank you very much for your kindness and the precious time you spent with us. Now we just have to wait a little bit for Miskatonic Graffiti to be out!        A: We will come if u want us definitly!
We gonna cover all lost grounds on this one and go where Casas never gone before!
For the first time in Casa history we will be able to tour on a record and 2016 is the year of the Miskatonic Graffiti!
Thanks to you!!!
